"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me."Psalm 23:4
God Is Present in the Darkness
Depression is not a sign of weak faith. Some of the greatest figures in Scripture battled crushing darkness โ Elijah sat under a tree and asked to die (1 Kings 19:4), David cried out 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' (Psalm 22:1), and Jeremiah cursed the day he was born (Jeremiah 20:14). God did not rebuke any of them for their honesty.
If you are in a dark season, you are not alone and you are not abandoned. Bring every word of it to God.
A Prayer for Depression
🙏 Prayer
God, I will not pretend to You. I am in a dark place and I do not know how to get out. The things that used to give me joy feel empty. Getting up feels like a mountain I do not have the strength to climb. I do not feel Your presence โ but I am choosing to believe You are here anyway, because Your Word says You will never leave me nor forsake me. I am not asking for instant happiness. I am asking for enough light for one more step. Give me that, Lord. One step at a time. Amen.
What Depression Needs
Prayer is essential โ but depression often also requires professional support. Seeking a counsellor, therapist, or doctor is not a failure of faith. God works through people He has gifted and trained. If you are struggling with depression, please also speak to someone you trust and consider professional help alongside prayer.
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."Isaiah 40:29
A Prayer for One More Day
🙏 Prayer
Lord, I just need to make it through today. Not tomorrow โ just today. Give me what I need for the next hour. Let me feel, even faintly, that I am not alone. You are the lifter of my head (Psalm 3:3). Lift it, Lord. Amen.
