"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."Matthew 11:28
When Ministry Drains Instead of Fills
Burnout often happens to the most committed people — those who gave everything and found there was nothing left to give. If you are here, you are not weak. You are human. And the God who invited the weary to come to Him is not disappointed in you for being tired.
Elijah experienced burnout after his greatest victory (1 Kings 19). God's response was not rebuke — it was food, water, and rest. That is still His response today.
A Prayer for Rest
🙏 Prayer
Lord, I am exhausted in ways that sleep does not fix. I gave and gave and now I am empty. I come to You not with a prayer request but just as I am — burned out and in need of You. Not Your service. You. Give me rest that is real. Restore what has been depleted. Remind me why I first loved You — not what I could do for You, but simply who You are. Amen.
Recovery from Burnout Takes Time
Recovery from burnout is not instant. It requires rest, boundaries, community, and often a significant reduction in commitments for a season. This is not failure — it is wisdom. Even Jesus withdrew regularly from crowds and ministry to pray alone (Mark 1:35).
"He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul."Psalm 23:2–3
