"At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips."Daniel 10:2–3
What Is the Daniel Fast?
The Daniel Fast is based on two passages in the book of Daniel. In Daniel 1, Daniel and his friends refused the king's food and ate only vegetables and drank only water. In Daniel 10, Daniel fasted from 'choice food' — no meat, no wine, no rich food — for 21 days while seeking God's revelation.
The Daniel Fast is typically observed for 21 days, though shorter periods (3, 7, or 10 days) are also practised.
What You Eat on the Daniel Fast
- Allowed: All fruits, all vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, water
- Not allowed: Meat, dairy, eggs, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, processed food
- The goal: Simplicity — eating to sustain the body, not to please it
How to Structure Your Daniel Fast Days
Each morning: open with prayer and Scripture before eating anything. Use meal times as prayer times — pray while you cook, pray before you eat. When you crave food you have given up, use that craving as a prayer trigger.
A Prayer for Your Daniel Fast
🙏 Prayer
Lord, I begin this Daniel Fast with the same intention Daniel had — to seek Your face, to receive Your revelation, to hear Your voice. I set aside what satisfies my flesh so that my spirit can be fed by You alone. Speak to me during these days. Move in my life and in the situations I am bringing to You. Amen.
