Prayer for a Prodigal Child or Family Member

Persistent, faith-filled prayers for a family member who has walked away from God, from family, or from themselves. Base

"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son."Luke 15:20

The God Who Runs

The parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15 is perhaps the most tender picture of God in all of Scripture. The father does not wait at the door — he sees his son 'still a long way off' and runs. This is your God. He is already moving toward the person you are praying for.

Keep praying. The father in the parable never stopped watching the horizon.

Prayer for a Prodigal

🙏 Prayer

Father, I bring [name] before You — the one who has walked away. You know where they are right now. You see every step they have taken away from You and every moment they have spent in the 'far country.' I am trusting You with them. I release them into Your hands — not because I have stopped caring, but because I know Your hands are better than mine. Bring them home, Lord. Let them come to themselves, as the prodigal did. Amen.

What to Do While You Wait

Praying for a prodigal is an act of long obedience. There will be days when it feels like nothing is changing. On those days, remember: the father in the parable watched the horizon every day. Your persistent prayer is not ignored.

Don't stop praying. Don't stop loving. Don't slam the door. Keep the light on.

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise... He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."2 Peter 3:9
